Usable revenue reserves rise

Usable revenue reserves have increased by 4.66% overall at upper tier authorities, according to a local government analyst who suggests it may mean the sector’s finances could be stabilising. Dan Bates of Pixel Finance, made the comments after examining the accounts of 146 upper tier councils which revealed the rise after two consecutive years in which reserves have have fallen.
In a post on LinkedIn Bates said: “This might be an indicator that the sector’s financial health is starting to stabilise, though 52 authorities (over a third) with reducing revenue balances indicates that significant financial difficulties still exist for some authorities.”

The adoption of artificial intelligence in local government could be just as much about maximising available resources – essentially doing more with less – as it is about making immediate financial savings or efficiencies.
