PWLB borrowing jumps 75% in a year

New loans to local authorities via the Public Works Loan Board (PWLB) amounted to £9.131bn in 2018/19 – up more than 75% (from £5.2bn) on the previous year.

The total loan book at the end of March 2019 stood at £77.5bn, up from £70.1bn a year earlier.

The figures were included in the Debt Management Office’s business plan for 2019/20.
