Northants CC report accused of ‘factual inaccuracies’

Northamptonshire County Council’s interim chief executive has accused a damning inspectors report of containing a number of innacuracies. Last week, the inspectors, sent in by communities secretary Sajid Javid, recommended that the council be abolished. However, in an interview with Local Government Chronicle, interim chief executive Damon Lawrenson said it was “totally wrong” to say there was no appraisal of the sale of the authority’s headquarters. “The bottom line is there are some factual inaccuracies in the report and that’s one of them,” he said.

The local government financial crisis has not been caused by a lack of funding: that’s just a symptom of the inherent conflict of having independent local authorities within a highly centralised state, argues Conrad Hall.
