Northants completes HQ sale

Northamptonshire County Council has sold its headquarters to Canada Life Investments for £64m. The council says that the sale and leaseback of the building will help it fund transformation of services. The council had paused the proposed sale after auditors said it was not part of the solution to the council’s financial problems. Matthew Golby, leader of Northamptonshire County Council, said: “We believe that this transaction is effective in leveraging the council’s assets and covenant allowing us to maximise the benefit of very competitive pricing at this point in the market.”

The adoption of artificial intelligence in local government could be just as much about maximising available resources – essentially doing more with less – as it is about making immediate financial savings or efficiencies.
