Highland Council agrees commercial solar plans

The Highland Council has agreed plans to install solar panels on its land and buildings which could generate more than £4m in net profit. The council’s corporate resources committee has approved £2.3m of funding to install 2.5Mw of photovoltaic panels, with the profit to be reaped over 20 years. Committee chair, Alister MacKinnon said: “The administration is committed to looking at new ways to generate income, make savings and for the council to become more commercial.”

The adoption of artificial intelligence in local government could be just as much about maximising available resources – essentially doing more with less – as it is about making immediate financial savings or efficiencies.
