Enfield takes charge of regeneration project delivery

London Borough of Enfield has dropped plans to appoint a master developer for its 10,000-home Meridian Water regeneration project, and will take charge of delivery.
In October, the council cancelled discussions over a development agreement with developer Barratt.
The council’s cabinet has now agreed that it will take overall charge of the project, appointing private sector partners for each phase of delivery.
Council leader Nesil Caliskan said: “Meridian Water is back on track and the way we are delivering is genuinely new for a local authority.

“Going forward, we will be in control and we will be the custodians of the place Meridian Water will become; investing council money and resources to ensure that local people are the principal beneficiaries of the new homes and jobs that will be created.”

The adoption of artificial intelligence in local government could be just as much about maximising available resources – essentially doing more with less – as it is about making immediate financial savings or efficiencies.
