Councils happy with audit fees

Most councils consider their audit fees “completely appropriate” or “acceptable”, according to a survey. However, some audit firms said that current fee levels could increase because they are unlikely to be sustainable in the long run. The findings were included as part of a scoping study carried out by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, which will form the basis of a future evaluation of the audit regime following the abolition of the Audit Commission.

The adoption of artificial intelligence in local government could be just as much about maximising available resources – essentially doing more with less – as it is about making immediate financial savings or efficiencies.
