BlackRock appoints new local government lead

Investment management firm BlackRock has appointed a new lead for its local government business.

Gavin Lewis joins the firm as an asset manager from Vanguard where he was head of UK institutional.

His other previous roles include UBS and Russell Investments. Lewis will report to Sarah Melvin, head of UK.

The local government financial crisis has not been caused by a lack of funding: that’s just a symptom of the inherent conflict of having independent local authorities within a highly centralised state, argues Conrad Hall.
