Amey ordered to repay £54m to Birmingham

Contractor Amey must repay Birmingham City Council £54m for road maintenance work that it didn’t carry out, according to reports. Adjudicator Andrew Goddard QC ruled in favour of the council that Amey failed to hit milestones set out in a contract and that the council was entitled to the repayment.
The contract with the council was held by Amey Birmingham Highways (ABH),  a special purpose vehicle contracted to deliver a 25-year highways contract.

The adoption of artificial intelligence in local government could be just as much about maximising available resources – essentially doing more with less – as it is about making immediate financial savings or efficiencies.
