Fitch warns of Brexit pressure

Ratings agency Fitch has warned a “no-deal” Brexit would hit UK businesses hard in the short term.

It warned that the switch to third-country trading status would cause disruption at borders, weaken Sterling and push the country into recession.

It would also cause a longer term drag on corporate performance due to the impact of trade barriers.

Fitch said retailers with significant European Union imports and airlines would be among those hit hardest.

The local government financial crisis has not been caused by a lack of funding: that’s just a symptom of the inherent conflict of having independent local authorities within a highly centralised state, argues Conrad Hall.
