Thurrock claims lending drop after BBC report

Thurrock Council has claimed that a BBC report, which used the controversial CIPFA resilience index as its basis, had led to other councils reviewing decisions to lend money for projects such as regeneration.

Thurrock’s director of finance, Sean Clark, told Local Government Chronicle: “This is actually causing practical problems now.

“All local authorities, public bodies, borrow and lend to each other so I am already getting comments back saying we are not sure we can lend to you anymore because you might go bust – that is the real impact.”
