Local authority treasurers and s151s to meet in March for LATIF North in York

In what are turbulent times for local authority finance and funding, there will be much to discuss at Room151’s Local Authority Treasurers Investment Forum North 2024 (LATIF North) in March.

The popular event will this year take place in York on 19 March at the grand Principal hotel, which combines history and modernity and offers a stunning backdrop to the conference.

LATIF North will bring together local authority treasurers and s151s for a mix of market and economic analysis, practitioner insights, roundtable discussions and networking opportunities.

There is still time left to register and join your colleagues for this unmissable event. Places are free for up to two delegates per council but spots are booking up fast.

Speakers at this year’s LATIF North include Tim Seagrave, commercial finance lead at Manchester City Council; Alison Ring, director public sector and tax at ICAEW; Victoria Bradshaw, chief financial officer at Leeds City Council; Mark Finnegan, lead treasury accountant at West Midlands Combined Authority; Jon Clarke, treasury manager at Derbyshire County Council; and many more.

Clive Betts, chair of the Levelling-up, Housing and Communities Select Committee, will assess ways of solving the crisis in local government funding in the opening keynote.

LATIF North is coming to York on 19 March 2024.

Other conference sessions will cover the macro environment and markets; investment and borrowing strategies; fixed income strategies; and climate change and net zero.

LATIF North’s Treasury, Governance and Regulation, and Finance Director’s panels will be sure to stimulate discussion and debate, while a new innovation for 2024 is the introduction of interactive sessions. These will give attendees the chance to interact with the rest of the audience, consider how they can use the content from previous sessions in their own workplace, and benchmark answers against peers.

Alongside the conference will be an extensive exhibition of leading suppliers to the sector, making the event a one-stop shop for local government treasury and investment needs.

All delegates, speakers and sponsors are also invited to the post LATIF North dinner and drinks reception, which offers a chance to continue networking in an informal setting. The free-to-attend event takes place at neighbouring hotel, The Grand, which is just a short walk from the conference venue and train station.

Until recently, the FRC had little involvement in local government affairs. But with investigations into council officers becoming more frequent, where is the political accountability?
