LATIF/FDs’ Summit ‘on course to be biggest yet’

Room151’s flagship event – the Local Authority Treasurers Investment Forum (LATIF) and FDs’ Summit – is on course to be the biggest yet, with more than 200 delegates expected.

Combining two events in one day, the conference offers sessions that will be of interest to treasury managers, section 151 officers and their teams. LATIF is now in its fourteenth year, while the FDs’ Summit is in its seventh year.

Having been run virtually and then as separate events in 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions, this will be the first time for three years that the two conferences have been held together.

A new venue has allowed the event to grow and create the opportunity for more  local government finance professionals to meet face-to-face, hear from a range of expert speakers and share ideas and experiences. It is a free-to-attend event for local government finance officers.

High-profile speakers

Confirmed speakers include: Dame Meg Hillier, chair of the Public Accounts Committee; Clive Betts, chair of the Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Committee; Carol Culley, deputy chief executive and city treasurer, Manchester City Council; Tony Travers, associate dean of the School of Public Policy at the London School of Economics; and Matthew Hemsley, head of local government capital, accounting and sustainability at the Department for Levelling-up, Housing and Communities.

Sessions will cover the economic challenges facing local government, including soaring inflation and rising interest rates, funding for net zero, social care, special educational needs and levelling up, plus the challenges from changes to the Prudential Code and Minimum Revenue Provision regulations.

Alongside the conference, there will also be a new workshop for elected members looking at how environmental, social and governance factors can be incorporated into council investment strategies.

The LATIF and FDs Summit will take place on 13 September at etc.venues, 200 Aldersgate Street, in central London.
