CCLA/Room151 Impact Awards move to the next stage with publication of the finalists.
The shortlist is out. Entries for the inaugural CCLA/Room151 Impact Awards have been sifted and sorted and are now compiled into nominees who our judges have selected to go through the final.
Competition has been fierce. Judges have been able to see the best of local government finance teams and their impact on communities and the environment.
Launched in March, the awards are designed to shine a light on the role of finance in supporting all aspects of society.
Peter Hugh Smith, chief executive of CCLA, said: “These entries demonstrate the real influence local government finance teams can have in shaping and developing their communities and the environment. They also reveal the broad range of issues and topics finance teams are able to tackle.
“This may be the first year of the awards but local government has embraced the spirit in which they were founded. All the entries underline the truly great work undertaken by finance teams every day.”
Categories for the awards included adult social care and children’s services; place shaping; carbon management; impact investment; tackling Covid-19; innovation and partnerships.
Without exception, entries displayed tireless dedication and a willingness to confront key issues facing communities up and down the country.
Entries included efforts to address child poverty, support adults in care through the pandemic and provide therapeutic foster care.
Elsewhere, projects addressed the provision of social and affordable housing, the redevelopment of key pockets of land and neighbourhood regeneration projects.
Finance teams also worked on waste management schemes, solar farm investments and the launch of a community bond. Entries included at least two projects aimed at tackling community needs for cancer treatment.
Winners will be announced on the 1st July during an online ceremony. Entrants and council officers can tune in by registering for the free event here.
