Entries close on 30th April for the CCLA/Room151 Impact Awards for finance teams.
There are just seven days to go until the deadline for entries to the inaugural CCLA/Room151 Impact Awards showcasing the work of finance teams and their ability to make a difference for communities and for the environment. Entries close on 30th April.
Aimed at highlighting the best finance teams and talent across the country, the awards cover a number of categories critical to local government service provision in the modern age.
They include awards for work in adult social care, children’s services and education, place shaping, tackling Covid-19 and carbon management. Room151 and CCLA will also bring together entries in a Summary of Entries allowing finance officers to browse examples of best practice around the country.
Already, finance chiefs have revealed accounts of the impact their teams have had, work that is not always high in public awareness.
Conrad Hall, corporate director of resources at the London Borough of Newham, says: “Finance is usually considered a back office service which, while technically correct, can create that unavoidable impression of it being less important than other service. It isn’t.”
He adds the awards are a chance to “celebrate” the “great work of local authority finance teams” across the country.
“Not just for looking after residents’ money well,” says Hall, “important though that is. But in using disciplines like forensic analysis to add rigour to service improvement projects across the whole range of services we deliver, or commercial negotiations to get more and better services for every £1 of council tax raised.”
Stories revealing the influence of finance teams are numerous but largely unsung.
