Brent weighs odds on local lottery

Brent council is to launch a local lottery to help fund good causes.

The council wants to start the Brent Community Lottery with a £25,000 top prize and tickets costing £1.

It hopes to raise more than £50,000 and predicts around 3,200 residents would take part.

It will join the 50 other local authorities in England that have introduced a local lottery as an alternative way of raising money.

A report to Brent councillors said: “The experience of other community lotteries being that it appeals more to those who want to donate rather than gamble.”
