Neil Mason appointed chair of PLSA local authority committee

The Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association (PLSA) has appointed Neil Mason chair of its local authority policy committee.

Mason, LGPS senior officer at Surrey Pension Fund, succeeds Rachel Brothwood, the West Midlands Pension Fund director of pensions. Brothwood will remain a member of the PLSA Policy Board.

Mason said he was “committed to ensuring there is focus on all areas of the LGPS: investments, funding, governance and administration”.

Surrey currently has a £5bn+ pension fund, with 110,000 members and more than 300 employers. Mason leads the fund and is also an independent member of the Local Pension Board at the London Borough of Hounslow, chair of the London pension officers group and a member of the national LGPS technical group.

The PLSA also announced that Robert Orr, head of technical and communications at the SAUL Trustee Company (the non-academic staff pension scheme of the University of London), has been appointed chair of the defined benefit committee.
