UK chancellor Jeremy Hunt would like to see the LGPS taking a more active role in funding early-stage start-up businesses, Room151 speaks to Nadeem Hussain, head of private markets at LGPS Central about the risks and opportunities.

LGPS Central has recently significantly expanded its private market offering, launching among others a new private credit strategy. in 2023, it attracted more than £1bn in partner fund commitments to its private market strategy.
But its exposure to venture capital is so far only indirect, as Nadeem Hussain, who recently took on the role as head of private markets for the pool explains.
The Wolverhampton-based pool, which manages some £30bn in assets is considering direct investments. “Venture is one of those sub asset classes which could help us access local or levelling up investments” Hussain says.
