Watchdog ‘rebuffs Scottish government’ over spending power figures

Spending watchdog Audit Scotland fended off attempts by the Scottish government to alter a report showing a drop in councils’ core spending powers, according to a report.

The Times said that civil servants had sent emails to Audit Scotland complaining that the year-on-year figures were not a like-for-like comparison.

They argued that a report compared the actual amount of money spent in 2017-18 and 2018-19 with budgeted figures for 2019-20.

According to the report, Audit Scotland did not alter the figures, but added a footnote of explanation.
