Select committee ‘set to probe at local government finance’

MPs could launch a new review into local government finance, according to reports.

Clive Betts, chairman of the housing, communities and local government finance committee revealed the new inquiry to Public Finance magazine.

He said: “I think at some point we will go on and look at the whole issue of local government finance before the Spending Review – I think it will be right that we inform that.”

He added that the inquiry would be a “major piece of work”.
