Scotland’s chief statistician has published the latest estimates for Council Tax Reduction (CTR).
As of December 2018, councils were foregoing £6.4m income a week, with 473,410 people benefiting from the relief.
The number of people supported by the scheme has fallen steadily since its introduction in April 2013, declining by 14% over the period.
However, increases in and reform of council tax and CTR in April 2017, and a subsequent increase in council tax in April 2018 led to some additional loss in foregone income to councils.
The roll-out of Universal Credit between September and December to several large authorities also created some volatility in the figures.
CTR recipients on Universal Credit have to claim the support, rather than being enrolled automatically as previously.
Glasgow City accounted for just under 20% of the number of recipients and its weekly foregone income over October to December 2018 amounted to £1.3m.
