Scottish council debt on the rise

Debt issued by Scottish local authorities increased by 4% to £17.6bn during 2017/18, according to figures produced by the Scottish government.

The figure is contained in an annual publication providing a comprehensive overview of financial activity of Scottish local authorities, based on authorities audited accounts.

It showed that gross revenue expenditure on services increased by 1.8% to £15.9bn during the year, with net revenue expenditure on services increased growing by 0.8% to £10.1bn.
