Richmond to seek voluntary supplementary council tax contributions

London Borough of Richmond will ask residents in the highest council tax bands to make an additional voluntary contribution to help fund children’s mental health services.

Contributions received from bands G and H residents would go to a charity set up by the council to provide additional mental health support to children and young people.

Robin Brown, the council’s cabinet member for finance and performance, said: “We never want to be asking our residents to contribute more but we must make difficult decisions to protect the services our residents need.

“We want to stress that this will be a completely voluntary scheme and contributions would not go towards general service delivery but rather to targeted support in areas it is most needed.”
