Powys rejects proposed budget

Powys County Council members are in discussions over a revised budget after rejecting the initial proposals.

A council meeting last week voted down the medium-term financial strategy, revenue budget and a rise to fees and charges, after which the process was abandoned.

The budget had included plans to raise council tax by 9.5% and cut services by £12m.

A spokesperson for the authority, told Room151: “Full council has until 7 March to set a budget in time for council tax bills to be sent out by April.

“Group leaders have been holding political discussions on the way forwards and we understand that full council is due to meet again next week.”
