An MP has accused his county council of “impropriety” over a contract for an incinerator project.
It emerged two months ago that the Javelin Park project near Gloucester is estimated to cost £602m – up from the previously estimated £500m.
Speaking in the House of Commons, Labour MP for Stroud, said: “While kicking and screaming, Gloucestershire County Council has had dragged out of it the true cost of the incinerator to be imposed on my constituency at Javelin Park.
“It now appears that there was some impropriety in the way in which the information was brought forward.
“Will the leader of the house organise an urgent debate on how local authorities handle big contracts to ensure that proper checks and balances are in place?”
In response, leader of the house Andrea Leadsom said: “The honourable gentleman has raised this matter in the chamber before, and I encourage him to seek an Adjournment debate so that he can find out from ministers whether some rules may have been breached.”
