The Local Government Association is calling on chancellor Philip Hammond to use the Autumn Budget to tackle a funding crisis for local government in 2019/20.
The LGA said that councils face a further cut of £1.3bn next year, as many are being forced into overspends and in-year budget cuts.
Almost half of councils – 168 – will no longer receive any RSG at all next year.
Richard Watts, chair of the LGA’s resources board, said: “In his Spring Statement in March, the Chancellor said he would invest in public services if public finances improve as recent forecasts have suggested. It is therefore vital that the government addresses the growing funding gaps facing councils in 2019/20 in the Autumn Budget.”
