Labour Councillors call for cuts reversal

Labour Councillors have launched a petition calling on chancellor Philip Hammond to reverse next year’s planned £1.3bn cut to council budgets.

The petition will be delivered to Downing Street ahead of the Budget at the end of this month.

It also calls for an immediate investment of £2bn in children’s services and £2bn in adult social care and the restoration of council funding to 2010 levels over the next four years.

Room151’s head of research Dan Bates reflects on the ‘generally positive’ business rates technical consultation and sets out what will be needed in the upcoming summer consultation on funding reform.
