Councils to receive full compensation for waste overhaul requirements

Local authorities will be fully compensated by new requirements on waste collection, according to a consultation document by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

The department has launched a series of consultations to create separate weekly food waste collections for every home in England, as well as free garden waste collections.

One of the documents said: “Government recognises the pressures on local authorities.

“They will therefore receive additional resource to meet any new net costs arising from the policies set out in this consultation when implemented.”
