Councils get £142m for housing infrastructure

More cash has been confirmed for local authorities to spend on infrastructure.

The housing minister confirmed Woking Borough Council and Truro City Council will share £142m to enable up to 8,500 new homes to be built.

The money is specified for widening bridges, building roads and connecting utilities.

The cash will come from the government’s £5.5bn Housing Infrastructure Fund.

Housing minister Kit Malthouse said: “We need to keep upping our game and build more, better, faster, if we are to meet our ambition to deliver 300,000 homes a year by the mid-2020s.”
