Council tax rises average 4.7%

The average Band D council tax set by local authorities in England for 2019-20 will increase by 4.7% to £1,750, according to government statistics.

The Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government said 85 out of 151 adult social care authorities will use at least some of their adult social care precept flexibility.

The council tax requirement (including adult social care and parish precepts) in 2019-20 is £31.4 billion, £1.9bn more than during 2018-19.
