Liverpool City Council’s latest director of finance, Chris Buss, has left the authority as he was unable to commit to the role full time.
Buss was appointed as acting s151 officer in June and succeeded Mel Creighton after her resignation in May as director of finance and deputy chief executive.
He told Room151: “I was disappointed to leave Liverpool and wish them well on their improvement journey, but it was impossible for me to commit the time required by them due to pre-existing commitments.”
The exit of Buss, an experienced finance director, is the latest blow to the authority. Earlier this month a report by commissioners revealed serious shortcomings in financial management and leadership in Liverpool and levelling up secretary Greg Clark announced that he was “minded to” expand intervention at the council.
Liverpool City Council has until 2 September to respond to the government’s proposed intervention measures.
