Warrington makes supermarket sweep

Warrington Council is set to buy a Tesco supermarket site as part of its property portfolio.

The council is adding the Farnworth site to its portfolio in a £40m deal designed to generate revenue for council services.

The council already owns other similar sites including one in Hulme and another in Warrington.

Council leader, Cllr Russ Bowden, said: “These will deliver significant income returns for the council.”

Until recently, the FRC had little involvement in local government affairs. But with investigations into council officers becoming more frequent, where is the political accountability?
