Somerset County Council’s audit committee chairman and his deputy have both quit their positions, according to reports.
Earlier this month, Room151 reported that the authority’s chief accountant warned councillors that the council could be forced to issue a section 114 notice in October if plans to reduce a predicted £12m revenue budget overspend are unsuccessful.
The Somerset County Gazette last week reported that audit committee chairman Dean Ruddle and his deputy Neil Bloomfield have both stepped down from their positions on the committee.
The paper quoted fellow committee member Mike Rigby as saying: “I’m not surprised that the chairman and vice-chairman have decided to go. Who wants to be left holding this baby?”
