Peterborough sells stadium back to football club

A football club has bought its stadium back from Peterborough City Council in a £5.2m deal.

Peterborough United football club, known as The Posh, has bought the stadium, a business centre and 12 car parking spaces from the council.

The council is retaining land around the stadium to build 295 homes.

Adding rent paid by the club plus council tax brings the council’s return on its investment to £3.9m since it bought the ground in 2010.

Until recently, the FRC had little involvement in local government affairs. But with investigations into council officers becoming more frequent, where is the political accountability?
