Northamptonshire Council is to insource its finance team from its shared service provider LGSS.
The council voted to take the action, which will see 26.7 full time equivalent (FTE) staff return to the line management of the council, last week.
The move follows a review of the council’s budget and financial management arrangements carried out on behalf of government commissioners sent into the council after it issued a section 114 notice earlier this year.
A report to the authority’s professional finance and democratic services teams by Mark McLaughlin, executive director of finance, said: “This review has led to the conclusion that the interests of improving the financial management of NCC at this most crucial time is best served by placing the Professional Finance Team under the direct line management of the NCC S151 officer.”
The team deals with finance, human resources, procurement and IT.
The committee also agreed to insource 9.95 FTE staff in the democratic services team.
LGSS is a joint venture with Cambridgeshire County Council and Milton Keynes Council with a staff of around 1,600.
