Luke Hall replaces Rishi Sunak as local government minister

Conservative MP Luke Hall has been appointed as local government minister in the new government’s reshuffle.

Hall, MP for Thornbury and Yate in Avon, will take over duties previously carried out by Rishi Sunak, whose move to become chief secretary to the Treasury was announced last week.

An MP since 2015, Hall will also take over homelessness responsibilities from departing junior minister Heather Wheeler.

Last year, Hall supported South Gloucestershire Council in a meeting with ministers requesting £2.3m in schools within his patch.

Until recently, the FRC had little involvement in local government affairs. But with investigations into council officers becoming more frequent, where is the political accountability?
