LGA warns of growth dangers without clarity on EU fund replacement

The Local Government Association has repeated its call for the government to clarify arrangements for its proposed replacement for European structural funds following Brexit.

Kevin Bentley, chairman of the LGA’s Brexit taskforce, said: “Councils desperately need long-term certainty around how the UK will replace vital EU regional aid funding.

“A fully-funded, locally-driven UKSPF is central to improving people’s lives, supporting local businesses and boosting the national economy.

“Without further clarity, growth and investment in local areas is at risk.”

Until recently, the FRC had little involvement in local government affairs. But with investigations into council officers becoming more frequent, where is the political accountability?
