Robert Jenrick has been reconfirmed as local government secretary in a reshuffle that saw former local government minister Rishi Sunak become chancellor of the exchequer.
Jenrick’s reappointment was welcomed by David Williams, chairman of the County Councils Network, and leader of Hertfordshire County Council, who said that it provided “clarity in what will be a significant year for councils”.
Sunak oversaw local government finance as local government minister between January 2018 and July 2019 when he was promoted to chief secretary to the Treasury.
Esther McVey lost her job as housing secretary within the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government in the reshuffle.
