Iain Murray to join CIPFA as director of public financial management

CIPFA has announced that Iain Murray will join the institute in the autumn as director of public financial management.

Murray will be responsible for leading the development of CIPFA’s policy, standard-setting and technical work. He will also serve as a member of the management board.

The new director of public financial management has 20 years of experience working with the public sector and is currently a director at Grant Thornton. He also previously worked at the Audit Commission.

Rob Whiteman, CIPFA CEO, said: “Now is a particularly challenging time for public services, not least in the local audit arena, so Iain’s guidance and expertise will be a tremendous addition to CIPFA’s leadership team.”

Murray succeeds Karen Sanderson who left the director of public financial management role in March 2022 to lead CIPFA’s International Financial Reporting for Non-Profit Organisations initiative.
