George Graham appointed as independent chair of Lincolnshire Pension Fund

George Graham, director, SYPA.

George Graham has been appointed as the independent chair of Lincolnshire’s Local Pension Board.

Graham’s appointment was announced on LinkedIn today (29 April), with him set to officially start as independent chair in July, succeeding Roger Buttery.

Graham will remain the director of South Yorkshire Pensions Authority, which has £10.2bn of assets under management. Prior to this, he was the managing director at Local Pensions Partnership and director for Lancashire County Pension Fund.

Graham stated that he is “honoured” to be appointed as independent chair of the Local Pension Board and is “delighted” to be working with the team at Lincolnshire.

Lincolnshire Pension Fund, which has £3.2bn of asset under management, is headed by Jo Kempton and is part of the Local Government Pension Scheme pool Border to Coast.

Commenting on Graham’s appointment, Kempton stated on LinkedIn: “He’ll be stepping into some big shoes as Roger Buttery moves on, but I’m more than confident that he’ll fill them and bring some exciting challenge to the fund.”

Recently, Graham spoke at Room151’s LGPS North conference in York on creating local impact, arguing that while the concept of levelling up was “perfectly valid as a political project”, it was not an investment.
