Fund new levy rules, LGA tells ministers

Councils have warned they will need funding for staff to meet a demand to publish details on revenues gained from developments.

The LGA warned plans to force councils to reveal the funding they receive from Section 106 agreements, and how it is spent, will take up significant officer time.

Councils already have to fund Freedom of Information requests and have warned the new requirements will generate further work. As a new duty, convention is that central government allocates fresh funding.

LGA’s planning spokesman, Cllr David Renard, said: “This work needs to be fully funded and councils also need sufficient lead-in time.”

Until recently, the FRC had little involvement in local government affairs. But with investigations into council officers becoming more frequent, where is the political accountability?
