Finance manager jailed for Grenfell fraud

A former finance manager at Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea has been jailed for five and a half years for stealing more than £60,000 from a fund set up to help victims of the Grenfell Tower disaster.

Jenny McDonagh used five pre-paid credit cards to pay for meals, cinema trips, and foreign trips, as well as losing £16,000 on gambling websites.

According to The Times, the judge told McDonagh: “The scale of your dishonesty in this fraud beggars belief.”

Until recently, the FRC had little involvement in local government affairs. But with investigations into council officers becoming more frequent, where is the political accountability?
