Council cuts hit IT services

Half of councils are unable to significantly develop their IT systems due to austerity cuts, according to a report.

Almost a third of UK councils have had IT budgets cut and a further 21% have the same funding as last year.

A Freedom of Information (FoI) request by software company Y Soft revealed councils are also looking to automate revenue and benefits as a way of saving money.

Until recently, the FRC had little involvement in local government affairs. But with investigations into council officers becoming more frequent, where is the political accountability?
