CIPFA hires former president

Staffordshire’s former finance director joins CIPFA as an adviser.

Andrew Burns, also a former CIPFA president, has taken up the part-time role of associate director of local government at the association.

Rob Whiteman, CIPFA’s chief executive, said: “At a time when service demand remains high, resources are stretched more than ever and the political agenda is dominated by Brexit, Andrew will cast much-needed light on domestic policy.”

Until recently, the FRC had little involvement in local government affairs. But with investigations into council officers becoming more frequent, where is the political accountability?
