Borderlands get £394.5m boost

Five councils on the border of England and Scotland have been given extra government funding.

The funding, which includes £85m from the Scottish government, will go into infrastructure and regeneration projects including a railway line extension, dairy industry research and a mountain biking innovation park.

Scottish secretary David Mundell said: “The South of Scotland and northernmost parts of England operate as a single economic area and it is important the border is not allowed to become an obstacle to development.”
