Birmingham predicts £17.4m revenue overspend

Birmingham City Council is predicting an overspend of £17.4m on its 2019/20 budget.

A report to councillors outlined the reasons for the the predicted overspend on the budget of £851.6m agreed in February.

The largest area of overspending is £14m within the council’s neighbourhood directorate, including £3m relating to waste management vehicles.

Until recently, the FRC had little involvement in local government affairs. But with investigations into council officers becoming more frequent, where is the political accountability?
