Birmingham approves 10-year housing vision

A housing trust established 10 years ago by Birmingham City Council has plans to build 2,708 homes for sale and rent up to 2029.

A report to councillors said that the 10-year programme would cost an estimated £346m, and includes schemes already approved.

The report said the trust “has had the benefit of a considerable land bank which is now substantially developed, however the clearance and demolition programme approved by Cabinet on the 14 February 2017 will provide additional sites for the BMHT programme”.

In addition, development land has been transferred from the general fund to the housing revenue account.

The trust will also start using modular homes on sites which are “unsuitable for traditional forms of house building”.

Until recently, the FRC had little involvement in local government affairs. But with investigations into council officers becoming more frequent, where is the political accountability?
