99% of eligible bodies opt in to PSAA national scheme

Public Sector Audit Appointments (PSAA) has announced that 99% of eligible bodies (470 out of 475) have joined the national scheme for local auditor appointments for the five-year period from April 2023.

This represents a significant achievement for PSAA, with the proportion exceeding the 98% acceptance level achieved for the current scheme which covers 2018-2023. The deadline for eligible bodies to send in their acceptance form to opt in was midnight on 11 March 2022.

Steve Freer, PSAA chair, said he was “very pleased that the vast majority of eligible bodies have once again” put their faith in the scheme.

“In our view, it makes particular sense for the sector to work together in a coordinated, collaborative scheme at a time when the local audit market is facing unprecedented challenges and risks affecting the supply of audit services and the delivery of timely audit opinions.”

He confirmed that the formal procurement process is underway with the aim of enabling all auditor appointments to be in place by 31 December 2022.
